Originally meant as a sincere and understandable warning for viewers of media that a scene, story, or paragraph coming up might include traumatizing content, “trigger warnings” have become an oversaturated joke online thanks to the woke. What was originally meant to act as a rhetorical tool for warning, say, victims of sexual assault that a scene in a movie contains sexual assault quickly became a virtue-signaling slugfest. Suddenly websites contain trigger warnings for images of small holes for the two or three people in the world that suffer from trypophobia.

Trigger warnings have been a joke for some time now (like everything woke will eventually be seen as), as this 2014 article illustrates. Still, the harm of taking what could be a understandable concept way too far to one up your peers in the virtue-signaling attention economy has had long-lasting effects, contributing to a culture of being coddled.
