Trans identity laundering is a benefit/scheme gifted to criminals and other people with seedy pasts by trans ideology. It allows and encourages them to change their identity and even their appearance, giving them cover to hide their past. News outlets tend to use the new identity (their nom de troon) and fauxgender them (“she sodomized her partner in 2011” for a male rapist), which convolutes history and the public’s understanding of what is really going on in the world. It seems like it would be easy to fix (or would have been easy to avoid falling into this gutter), but trans activist groups explicitly fight against correct gendering (what they erroneously call “misgendering”) and linking old and new identities (what they transperbolically call “deadnaming“)
